Outline of future plans for the BioCookies community
There are a number of things we hope to acheive to make the site grow and have a successful future. The main points are listed below:
- Server Capacity and Redundancy
Our master server is somewhat overloaded, but remains reliable hardware and software wise. We have access to more powerful processors and a new motherboard but would have to risk reformatting the system drives to support this new hardware. The server has not broken yet, and we don't intend to upgrade until it intil it does (or we get too overloaded). We could use a UPS (uninterruptible power supply) system, which would cost about $60 but keep the server and routers on for a few minutes without power and until it comes back on. We could also use 4GB ram to support more crysis servers running simultaneously.
This is a tricky one. Lag on our game servers is usually caused by large traffic on this website, and since both run on the same connection there is no real remedy other than purchasing more connections. This could cost a pretty penny, and unless ad revenue dramatically increases we can expect to use the current connection for some time.
- Site Upgrades
The current system we use is a complicated, but powerful system that uses more hardware resources than others. It can support thousands of members, but does not fare well with large files. We are not expert programmers and may have to hire some to deal with software issues that may arise over time.
How can you help?
Just being an active member is a great help. By using the site, you contribute to our traffic and actually cause others to do the same. We make our humble amount of money with ads pasted around the site in various locations. This money is used SOLEY for improving the site and never for personal reasons. If you are interested in a particular service you see in an ad, don't hesitate to check it out.
Know anyone who needs an online space for something they do that could use the collaboration of a community? Let them know about us, as the most powerful tool of growth is the spoken word.
