WikiLeaks video: 'Collateral murder' in Iraq

by Masta F00 last modified 2010-10-25 13:53

WikiLeaks, a website that publishes anonymously sourced documents, has released a video showing what apparently is a US military helicopter firing at unarmed civilians in Iraq. WikiLeaks said the footage, filmed from a helicopter cockpit, shows a missile strike and shooting on a square in a Baghdad neighborhood in July 2007. The website said 12 civilians were killed in the attack, including two journalists, Namir Nour El Deen and Saeed Chmagh, who worked for the Reuters news agency. This is the full, unedited version of the footage.

Collateral Murder?!?!

I don't think the title of this video is appropriate considering that the pilots had clearance to fire. When they did finally inspect the bodies, the only stated civilian casualty was a girl. The rest were armed insurgents with AK-47s and RPGs. Even if there were other civilian casualties, there deaths were clearly unintentional. Furthermore, this website from which the video was pulled sounds shady at best.

A Reuters reporter walking around around with insurgents sounds unlikely. Those were cameras and mics not weapons, but fuzzy black and white video is all the intel you need these days to shoot up a few people. The girl was not the only stated casualty.... The news agency tried to investigate the deaths of their employees but the military didn't say crap. What pisses me off is the joy the gunner/pilot get by blowing people up from a mile away in a chopper. Also when the reporter points his camera toward the chopper (which is like a mile away) the pilot feels threatened...fail.

"Wikileaks is an amorphous, international organization, originally based in Sweden,[1] that publishes anonymous submissions and leaks of sensitive documents from governments and other organizations, while preserving the anonymity of their sources." Pretty much all news networks get stuff from them or work with them.
